Which forklift trucks do you offer training on?
We offer Counterbalance, Reach Truck, Bendi Truck, Powered Pallet Truck (PPT) and VNA training, with novice, conversion and refresher options available.
What is novice forklift training?
Novice training is for people who are new to operating the relevant type of forklift truck. It provides structured instruction in safe operation, practical handling, operator knowledge and workplace awareness. Courses run for 3–5 days depending on the candidate's experience.
What is conversion forklift training?
Conversion training is for suitable trained operators moving to a different type of forklift truck. Conversion courses run for 1 day.
What is refresher forklift training?
Refresher training is intended for suitable existing operators who need to reinforce safe working practices and refresh their operating skills. Refresher courses run for 1 day.
How long does forklift training take?
Novice training runs for 3–5 days depending on experience. Conversion training is 1 day and refresher training is 1 day. Course suitability is confirmed before booking.
Do I need previous forklift experience?
No previous forklift experience is required for a suitable novice course. If you already have relevant training or operating experience and are looking to refresh your skills, tell us when you enquire so we can discuss the right training route.
What should I bring or wear for forklift training?
Wear suitable practical work clothing and appropriate safety footwear. Any additional requirements will be explained when your training is arranged, particularly where training is taking place at a customer workplace.
Do you provide training for companies and multiple operators?
Yes. We welcome enquiries from employers arranging training for members of their workforce. Tell us how many operators require training, the truck types involved and their experience levels so we can discuss suitable options.
Can you train at our own warehouse?
Yes. FLT Academy Ltd can visit suitable warehouses and workplaces to provide on-site forklift training. We will need to discuss your location, equipment, training environment and operator requirements to make sure the proposed arrangement is suitable.
What do we need for on-site forklift training?
On-site training requires suitable equipment and an appropriate environment in which training can be carried out safely. Contact us with details of your workplace, truck type and number of trainees and we can discuss what will be required.
Can operators train on the trucks they use at work?
Where on-site training is suitable, one of the benefits is that operators may be able to train in their own working environment using the relevant workplace equipment. Suitability will be discussed before training is arranged.
Where is FLT Academy Ltd based?
We are based at 10A Home Road, Kempston, Bedford, MK43 9BL. We also offer on-site training at suitable customer warehouses and workplaces.
What training standards do you follow?
FLT Academy Ltd operates independently. Before booking, we explain the course content, assessment arrangements and the certificate or registration that applies.
How is the forklift theory assessment completed?
The theory assessment is completed online in the classroom under instructor supervision, at an appropriate point in the course when candidates are ready. This paperless approach gives each candidate a clear result while allowing FLT Academy to keep an accurate training record. Candidates can also take our free online mock test whenever they like to practise their knowledge before training. If you have a support need that may affect an assessment, please tell us before the course so that suitable arrangements can be discussed.
How much does forklift training cost?
Our published standard prices include: £200 per person for suitable conversion training, £600 per person for the combined Counterbalance and Reach novice package, £600 per person for Pivot Steer novice training, and standard workplace training at £395 per instructor day. A one-day VNA workplace conversion for up to three suitable previously trained operators costs £600 total. FLT Academy is not currently VAT registered, so VAT is not added. Do you issue certification after training?
Certification and registration arrangements depend on the course and successful completion of the applicable training and assessment requirements. We can explain the relevant certification arrangements when you enquire about a specific course.
What happens if I need to change or cancel a booking?
Please contact us as soon as possible if you need to change an arranged training date. Booking, cancellation and payment terms should be confirmed with FLT Academy Ltd when your course is arranged.
How can I pay for training?
Payment arrangements will be confirmed when your booking or quotation is agreed. If you are booking on behalf of a business, contact us to discuss your requirements.
